If you’re reporting a wrong number, please include your total rise, the tread thickness, and what the app showed. That’s almost always enough to reproduce it.

Can I rely on this to meet code? No — treat it as a calculation aid, not a compliance check. Rise & Run warns you when a result falls outside common International Residential Code limits for riser height, tread depth, headroom, and the solid stringer left behind the notches. Local codes vary and your inspector is the authority. Confirm before you cut.

Why is the first riser cut shorter than the others? Because the tread board makes up the difference. The bottom of the stringer is dropped by the thickness of one tread, so the finished first step ends up the same height as every other step. If you skip that drop, your first step is taller than the rest by exactly the thickness of the tread.

Does it work in millimetres? Yes. Settings has a units switch, and you can change it at any time.

What are the tips in Settings? Every feature is free. The tips are optional, support development, and unlock nothing.
